Pregame – Navigators @ Bay Sox

The Game
The North Shore Navigators are in New Bedford tonight for their fourth matchup of the season against the Bay Sox. The Navs are 3-0 thus far against the Sox this season, and most recently defeated New Bedford 10-2 on July 3. The Bay Sox are coming off a 3-0 loss to Old Orchard last night and have lost four in a row but are still in position for a playoff spot. They enter tonight’s contest a game up on Laconia, which currently sits in fifth place in the Eastern Division. Rain is in the forecast and could prove to be severe at times as the night wears on.

Starting Pitchers
NS – RHP Hunter Rivers (Jacksonville State)
NB – RHP Stephen Janas (Kennesaw State)
Right-hander Hunter Rivers (Jacksonville State), a sophomore, will make his fifth start of the season tonight in New Bedford and currently owns a 3-0 record with a miniscule 0.95 ERA. He got the victory in a 3-2 win his last time out on July 2, allowing just one run on three hits over five innings against the Raging Tide. His ERA is the lowest in the NECBL among pitchers who have made at least four starts. Stephen Janas of Kennesaw State will make his second start of the year for the Bay Sox but has not pitched since June 26, when he threw a scoreless inning of relief in a 2-1 win over Vermont. Janas went 2-0 with a 5.54 ERA in 10 appearances (two starts) for the Owls as a freshman.
