The Navigators lost 4-1 to Team USA in an exhibition contest on Sunday night at Fraser Field. Navigators starter Crayton Bare allowed just one run over five innings of work, holding the highly talented Team USA offense in check in the process despite taking the loss. Eric Jagielo went 3-for-4 to lead North Shore offensively, while Matt McGovern and Clinton Harwick both had two hits apiece on the night.
Team USA broke a scoreless tie in the fifth when a run came in the backdoor on a fielder’s choice, then extended their lead to 4-0 with three runs in the sixth against Navs reliever Ryan Grant. The Navs got a run back in the bottom half on an RBI single by Jagielo.
Jagielo then narrowly missed a home run in the eighth after he hit a laser off the right field wall that was three feet from clearing the fence. That put runners on second and third with one out, but a pair of Team USA relievers got both Anthony Galli and Dario Pizzano to strike out to escape the jam.
