The North Shore Navigators were done in by a four-run first inning Tuesday night against the Sanford Mainers, who defeated the Navs 5-1 at Goodall Park. The two teams entered the game in a three-way tie for first place in the NECBL’s Eastern Division along with the Newport Gulls, but the Navigators (6-5) left four men in scoring position as they lost for the second time at Sanford in a seven-day span.
The Navigators got one back on a two-out RBI double by Blake Berger in the second to make it 4-1, although Sanford later added a run in the sixth on a wild pitch. The Navs managed just two hits in the game, as North Shore lost consecutive games for the first time this season. The Navs return home on Wednesday night for a 6:15 matchup with the Holyoke Blue Sox at Fraser Field.
