LYNN – The New England Collegiate Baseball League announced on Sunday that Navigators first baseman Jacob Schrader has been named the NECBL Player of the Week. Sanford starter A.J. Bazdanes took home Pitcher of the Week honors.
Schrader hit .391 with three home runs and three doubles this past week, including a two-homer, five-RBI performance on June 13 in a 7-0 shutout over New Bedford. He added a solo shot on Saturday night in a 3-1 win over Laconia and currently leads the NECBL in homers (4) and is tied for first in RBI (8). He had a team-best .355 average entering Sunday night’s home tilt against Newport.
Schrader is the second straight Navigator to be named Player of the Week, as North Shore outfielder Dario Pizzano garnered the honors last week. Navigators lefthander Michael Johnson was also named NECBL Pitcher of the Week last week, meaning that Navigators have taken home three of the first four weekly honors on the season.
Schrader, a sophomore from St. John’s River Community College in Florida, will be attending the University of Tampa in the fall. This spring, Schrader hit .287 with 11 home runs and 39 RBI at SJRCC.
