The Navs fell 11-2 to the Newport Gulls on Sunday night, as the visitors exploded for 16 hits on the night and got a sterling starting effort from Tanner Poppe (6 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 5 K) of Kansas en route to the victory. Navs starter Carter Watson gave up nine runs (four earned) over four innings, while North Shore’s Matt McGovern went 2-for-4 with a run scored. The Navigators pushed across two runs in the eighth on an RBI single by Clinton Harwick and an RBI fielder’s choice by Eric Jagielo.
The Navigators are off on Monday before traveling to Sanford on Tuesday for a matchup with the Mainers. They return home on Wednesday for a 6:15 PM matchup against the Holyoke Blue Sox, who defeated the Navs on Opening Day June 8.
