Navs falter, lose in ninth

Johnson: 5 IP, 1 R, 6 H, 4 K

The Navigators were tied 1-1 entering the bottom of the ninth inning on Wednesday night in Sanford, but the Mainers won in walk-off fashion on an error.

Sanford’s Nick LaCroix led off the ninth with a double off Navs reliever Dan Duval before taking third on a sacrifice. The next hitter flied out to right fielder Matt McGovern, but McGovern’s throw to the plate skipped past catcher Blake Berger allowing LaCroix to score for the 2-1 victory.

Navigators starter Michael Johnson allowed just one run over five innings of work, and designated hitter Dario Pizzano had an RBI double in the fourth to tie the game for the time being. Fittingly, Johnson was named NECBL Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday and Pizzano was named NECBL Player of the Week.

The Navs will have their home opener at Fraser Field on Thursday night (6:15 PM) against the New Bedford Bay Sox. If you have yet to purchase tickets, call the team box at (781) 595-9400 to order your seats and pick them up at will call as you arrive at the ballpark.
