Seven former Navs picked in MLB Draft

Seven former North Shore Navigators were chosen in this year’s Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, increasing the overall total to 21 times a player from the organization has been drafted since the team moved to Lynn in 2008. This year’s draft class included:

LHP Sean Gilmartin, Jr., Florida State 
Atlanta Braves, Round 1 – 28th overall

C Mike Dowd, Jr., Franklin Pierce
Seattle Mariners, Round 12 – 363rd overall

P/IF/C Garret Smith, Sr., Boston College
Tampa Bay Rays, Round 20 – 630th overall

C Derek Trent, Sr., East Tennessee State
Pittsburgh Pirates, Round 31 – 932nd overall

SS Chad Zurcher, Sr., Memphis
New York Mets, Round 31 – 942nd overall

1B Ben Waldrip, Jr., Jacksonville State
Kansas City Royals, Round 40 – 1206th overall

OF Matt Marquis, Jr., Maryland
Boston Red Sox, Round 41 – 1252nd overall
