After losing five in a row and eight of their last nine, the North Shore Navigators came through with a clutch performance in extras on Wednesday night, scoring three times in the 11th inning in a 5-2 victory over the Lowell All-Americans at Alumni Field.
Having been outscored 31-18 over the losing streak, the Navigators (18-16) featured a makeshift lineup that sported some of the team’s non-everyday players. Leadoff man Josh Band singled home two runs in the second to put the Navs on top, as the All-Americans (10-20) would score once in the second and entered the 9th down a run. However, Lowell managed to tie things up after a one-out sac fly off of the Navs’ Garret Smith.
In the 11th, the Navs would scrape together their three runs on three hits and an error, as an RBI single by Joe Medeiros (2-for-5) plated the eventual game-winning run. Jason Markovitz, who relieved Smith in the ninth, allowed just one hit over 2.1 IP for the win.
The Navigators are off on Thursday, but return to action on Friday, July 23, when they will get set to visit the first-place Newport Gulls.
