postGame: Defenders @ Navigators

The Pittsfield American Defenders (5-7) defeated the North Shore Navigators (9-5) by the score of 3 to 0.

…For the second time this year, the North Shore Navigators were shutout at Fraser Field, as the Pittsfield American Defenders marched into Lynn and blanked the Navs 3-0.  Pittsfield ace Robert Young (2-0), a southpaw from Dartmouth University, hurled eight innings of shutout ball, only surrendering five hits and one walk while striking out five.  The American Defenders scored all of their runs in the first inning against Navs starter Jeff Tardiff (1-2).  Brandon Newton singled and stole second with one out, before Zach Williams singled and advanced Newton to third.  Casey Lytle then lined a two-strike curveball into left field to score Newton and Kyle Multner’s throw into the infield bounced into the Navigators dugout,, allowing Williams to score and Lytle to move to third.  A two-out RBI single by John Parke gave Pittsfield a 3-0 lead.  Jacob Hiatt nailed down his first save of the year, retiring the Navs in order in the ninth inning…
