Chasing the Dream

In the 2009 MLB Draft, 98 players from the NECBL were drafted and/or signed.  Every Major League Club has selected at least one NECBL player, and they were chosen in every round but the seventh.

The 1st overall pick in the draft was former Torrington Twister and San Diego State phenom Steven Strasburg (pictured), who was taken by the Washington Nationals.

The North Shore Navigators had six former and current players selected in the draft, while the Keene Swamp Bats led the NECBL with 20 players drafted.  The majority of the players selected were right-handed pitchers (35), followed by 20 OF’s (OF 8, RF 6, CF 4, LF 2).  The NECBL and all of its teams are making progress every year to show Major League Baseball the talent that is here in New England.
