The Newport Gulls lost tonight in North Adams against the SteepleCats, who had lost five consecutive games entering play tonight.
The Gulls led 6-0 after seven and a half innings, but the SteepleCats scored twice in the eighth before exploding for five runs against closer Stephen Peterson and reliver Matt Branham in the ninth inning.
…wow…
A passed ball allowed Brandon Garcia to score the tying run against Branham and pushed John Schultz to second base with one out. Branham intentionally walked Paul Hoilman before striking out Bo Reeder. With two on and two outs, Tony Brunetti singled through the right side to score Schultz and give North Adams a walk-off win at Joe Wolfe Field.
…well that’s one way to snap out of a five-game losing streak…
Newport now trails the first-place North Shore Navigators by 1.0 game in the NECBL East Division standings.
…congratulations — and thank yous — go out to the north adams steeplecats…
