Outfielder Dario Pizzano (Columbia) has been named to the 2011 NECBL First Team, it was announced on Tuesday by the NECBL commissioner’s office. Pizzano was also named the league’s Most Improved Player after hitting .365 (54-for-148) with four homers, 27 RBI, and 12 doubles this summer. He had previously hit .216 in 125 at-bats as a member of the 2010 NECBL-champion Navigators.
Outfielder Eric Jagielo (Notre Dame) and shortstop Clinton Harwick – both freshmen – were named to the NECBL Second Team to round the end-of-the-year awards among Navigators players. Jagielo hit .313 (51-for-163) with three home runs, 28 RBI and seven doubles in 2011, while Harwick hit .319 (45-for-141) with three homers and 12 RBI.
All three represented North Shore in this year’s NECBL All-Star Game at Fraser Field, with Pizzano and Jagielo both starting for the East.
The Navigators (22-20) finished the regular reason in second place in the NECBL’s Eastern Division but lost in the opening playoff round in a three-game set with the Sanford Mainers.
